# Instant Data Model

The Instant Framework (theinstantframework.com) by Falcra (falcratechnologies.com)

An AI skill and template that produce a Data Model for an application once it is built: every table, column, key, constraint, index, view, procedure and trigger, how history and audit are implemented, and how the database is secured and maintained. It comes with a data dictionary for your catalogue tools and a schema export, and is written for your database administrators, developers, support and integration teams.

It is the companion to the **Instant Information Model**, which describes what the information means, where it comes from and who owns it, for architects. The Data Model describes how the information is stored. Run them together and they reconcile: every entity maps to its tables, and every business table to an entity.

Why it matters: AI builds an application in days, but the people who run and support it still need to know exactly how its data is held. This gives them that, generated from the database itself rather than written from memory, so it is accurate on the day it is produced and can be regenerated at every release.

## What's in the download

- `instant-data-model/SKILL.md`: the skill. It tells the AI how to produce the model and the rules it must follow.
- `instant-data-model/template.md`: the Data Model document template, 18 sections from document control to change history, with diagrams in Mermaid.
- `instant-data-model/data-dictionary-template.csv`: the data dictionary, one row per column.
- `README.md`: this file.

The AI also exports `schema.sql` using your database's own export tool, against a non-production database.

## How to use it

1. **Install the skill.** Copy the `instant-data-model` folder into your AI coding tool's skills folder. For Claude Code that is `~/.claude/skills/` (all projects) or `.claude/skills/` (one project). Tools without skills can use `SKILL.md` as a prompt, with the template attached.
2. **Ask for it after the build,** in the project: "Produce the data model for this application." Give the AI read access to a non-production copy of the database and the migrations. It changes nothing, and never connects to production.
3. **Supply your standards, if you have them.** If your organisation has database design standards (naming, keys, indexing, auditing), the AI lists departures from them. Without standards it describes, and doesn't judge.
4. **Review the gaps.** Everything marked ASSUMPTION or "Not specified" is listed with the role that should answer it. Your technical owner or DBA reviews the document and changes its status from Draft.
5. **Regenerate at every release.** The document names the release and latest migration it describes; don't patch it by hand.

It works with any relational database. It never needs production data, and never copies real data into the document.
